Professional SportIf you want a long tennis career that lasts well into your 30s, become a doubles specialist. Daniel Nestor, 36, and Nenad Zimonjic, 33, repeated today as Wimbledon doubles championships. They beat the top seeded team of Bob and Mike Bryan in the finals 7-6(7), 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-3.
This is the fifth Grand Slam for Daniel Nestor who has career Grand Slam in doubles with two Wimbledons. It is the second Men's Doubles Grand Slam for Zimonjic, the other one being Wimbledon last year. Zimonjic has also won three grand mixed doubles titles.
Neither Zimonjic or Nestor was particularily successful in singles. Nestor turned pro in 1991, and reached a career high of 58 in the world in 1999 when he reached the fourth round of Wimbledon. Nenad Zimonjic only reached 176 in the world, and he turned pro back in 1995. At 33 and 36, however, they are both still playing strong doubles. It will be interesting to see how long their careers will continue.
